Twitter India on Monday has withheld access to multiple accounts on the microblogging website including The Caravan Magazine and Kisan Ekta Morcha in response to unspecified ‘”legal demands.”
The accounts have been withheld in response to ‘legal demands’, Twitter’s disclaimer reads.
Along with Caravan and Kisan Ekta Morcha, the accounts withheld by Twitter India are activists Hansraj Meena and Muhammad Asif Khan, actor Sushant and CPIM PB member Muhammad Salim and Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh.
AltNews founder Mohammad Zubair has, in a thread on Twitter, listed some of the accounts that have been withheld.
However, the “legal demand” isn’t known yet but it is pertinent to mention that the Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Caravan for reporting a news story that a farmer died at the ITO intersection on January 26 after the protesting farmers were attacked by policemen in the national capital on Republic Day.
“Horrendous and unacceptable! Twitter India. Caravan has been the most vocal anti-caste media voice. Utterly horrendous” lawmaker and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani took to Twitter to lodge a protest against the accounts being withheld by the tech giant.
According to Caravan editor Vinod K Jose, Twitter withheld Caravan’s official handle without informing them.
Kisan Ekta Morcha and Tractor2twitr are the Twitter accounts which had been set up to ensure smooth communication of updates from ongoing farmers’ protests against Narendra Modi government’s new agri laws.
