52 year old farmer dies by suicide, names PM Modi in suicide note

A 52-year-old farmer Karamveer Singh from Haryana’s Jind died by suicide on Sunday at Tikri border, one of the protest sites on Delhi borders where farmers have been protesting the Centre’s farm laws for over 70 days, blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the anti-farmer laws in his suicide note.

According to police officials, Singh was found hanging from a tree in a park near the Tikri border.

The handwritten purported suicide note begins with “Bharatiya Kisan Union Zindabad.”

“Dear farmer brothers, this Modi government is keeping on giving date after date. It cannot be guessed when these black laws will be cancelled. We will not go from here until these black laws are cancelled,” reads the note.

“A suicide note was also found on his person. His body has been kept in the mortuary, the postmortem will be done after his family arrives and gives their consent,” Inspector Sunil Kumar, SHO of the Bahadurgarh City police station told presser.

The protesters told media that 150 of their fraternity members have died since the protest started in November.

“They sacrificed their lives for the movement,” farmer leaders said.

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ farmers’ protest at border points of New Delhi has entered the 74th day today.
