Unnao: Shift Dalit girl immediately to AIIMS, demands Chandrashekhar Azad

After two minor Dalit girls aged 13 and 16, were found dead in a field in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh while another minor Dalit girl (17) is very critical, Dalit groups, activists and Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad have demanded that the Dalit girl who is struggling for survival be immediately shifted to AIIMS-Delhi for better treatment.

In a tweet on Thursday morning, Azad said, “Injured survivor should immediately be shifted to AIIMS Delhi. Dalits are continuously under attack in India, let’s not normalise such atrocities.”

Award winning author Suraj Yengde said that the government should airlift the victim to a credible hospital and save her life.

“Doctors should be SC, ST. Simultaneously, Prevention of Atrocities Act should be immediately applied. Any action against SC, ST should be treated as anti-state,” he said.

Government sources have said there are no immediate plans of shifting the third girl to AIIMS-Delhi as they claimed that she is getting adequate treatment at the hospital.

The doctor who attended to the injured girl said that her pupils were dilated and she was in an unconscious state when she was brought to the facility.

He said that treatment was administered to the injured girl at the earliest. He added that prima facie, it appears that there is brain damage. The girl is said to be critically injured with minor signs of survival.

The elder girls were sisters, with the 13-year-old their cousin.

The brother of the girls claimed they had been found with their hands and feet tied up.

Sources said it is suspected that they were assaulted. There are injury marks on their bodies.

As per preliminary reports, the girls had gone to get food for cattle.

Initial examination by doctors and police suggest they were poisoned.

A family member of the deceased told presser that “when they did not return home on time, we started searching for them. They were tied with their own clothes and abandoned in a field.”

Unnao SP told ANI news agency that the doctor states that there are symptoms of poisoning.

“probe on,” he added.

The incident happened in Asoha police station area of Unnao. Senior cops including IG Lucknow range reached the spot after being alerted.
