Gaurav Sharma, a man accused of molestation, who was briefly jailed in 2018 and has been out on bail, on Monday shot the woman’s father in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district. The father died while on the way to the hospital.
In videos shot by local journalists, the woman can be seen crying outside a police station and demanding justice. “Please give me justice… please give me justice,” she is heard saying.
“First, he molested me and now he has shot my father. He had come to our village. There were six-seven people. My father had no enmity against anyone. His name is Gaurav Sharma.”
The deceased had filed a case of molestation in July 2018 against Gaurav Sharma. After that Sharma was arrested and sent to jail but he came out on bail after one month.
“The man who died had filed a case against Gaurav Sharma in July 2018 for molestation,” Hathras Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said in a video statement released on Twitter. “The accused went to jail and got bail after a month.”
According to the police, “On Monday evening, Gaurav’s wife and aunt visited a temple in the village. Both the daughters of the deceased were also present here. An argument started between the two sides over the old dispute after which Gaurav and the deceased also reached there. As the issue got bigger, Gaurav called some of his aides and opened fire at him.”
The police have registered a case against four people, including Sharma. The accused fled from the scene and a police team has been formed to arrest them. A family member of Sharma has been arrested in the case so far.
