Assam polls: Congress guarantees creation of Ministry of Jobs if voted to power

Continuing with its series of “guarantees”, the Congress said on Thursday that if the Grand Alliance is voted to power in Assam, it will create a separate ministry for providing jobs to the unemployed youths of Assam.

Congress’s key leader in the state, Pradyut Bordoloi claimed that his new ministry will be accountable as there will be a separate minister for it.

The Assam Congress has also launched a website for the unemployed youths in the state.

The website – congressor5guarantee.in was launched by the grand old party on Thursday in Guwahati.

The website has received good response with nearly 800 youths registering themselves for jobs within an hour of the launch, party sources said.

Congress also hit out at the ruling BJP government for making ‘impractical’ promises of giving 2.5 millon jobs to the youths of Assam ahead of the 2016 Assembly elections in state.

“We don’t believe in making impractical promises. 2.5 million jobs were promised by the BJP in 2016. They failed,” said Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev has said that once Congress returns to power, 50 percent reservations for jobs would be made for women in the state.

“When the Congress-headed grand alliance will form the government, we will implement 50 per cent reservation for women. This will be our guarantee and it will be one of the first things we’re going to do,” she said.

The Congress has formed a broad based alliance with AIUDF, BPF, CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), and Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM) to fight the upcoming assembly election against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for 126-member Assam house.
