Coronavirus: At 40,953 new cases, India reports highest single-day spike of 2021

India reports 40,953 new COVID-19 cases, 23,653 recoveries and 188 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry.

It is the highest single-day rise recorded in 111 days.

Over the past five days, India has seen the sharpest surge in coronavirus infections in at least the last 10 months, with the seven-day rolling average of daily cases rising by as much as 39% during this period.

A total of 23,24,31,517 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to March 19. Of these, a total of 10,60,971 samples were tested on Friday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) informed.

Total number of vaccination conducted so far is 4,20,63,392. India has so far administered 4 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses, crossing a landmark milestone. Of these, 18.6 lakh vaccine jabs were given till 7 pm on Friday.
