“We want independent political voice,” Owaisi lashes out at Mamata for ‘BJP stooge’ remark

All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi MP on Wednesday has slammed West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee over her ‘BJP stooge’ remark and said that “in Mamata’s world everyone who’s gotra-less is stooge.”

“How dare we think for ourselves?! She called RSS deshpremis and begged them for 1% support to change Bengal. She voted for BJP in 2002 in Lok Sabha when every decent human condemned Gujarat pogrom.Who’s the stooge?” Owaisi took to Twitter to respond to CM’s allegations.

Owaisi’s criticisms came after Mamata Banerjee called the Muslim vocal leader as “a BJP stooge from Hyderabad” in her poll rally.

“A BJP stooge has come from Hyderabad, beware of him,” Banerjee said.

Owaisi went on to say: “80% of Bengal’s Muslims earn below ₹5000. Am I responsible for it or is it 1% RSS support? What should 27% Muslim and 22% Dalit of Bengal do as we’re Gotra/varna-free. You can only see us as slaves as you’re used to them. We want independent political voice not beholden to gotra.”

While talking to reporters in Tamil Nadu, Owaisi said political parties have always vying to prove who among them is the bigger Hindu and this is not good for a secular and democratic India.

His response was after Banerjee said she hailed from the ‘Shandilya’ lineage.

Lashing out at Banerjee, Owaisi said: “Throughout her election campaigning, Mamata Banerjee has been reciting Chandi Path and Durga Paths. Now she said that her Gotra is Shandliya and she is a Hindu Brahmin. If she is saying that she belongs to the upper caste in a state where 27 per cent are Muslims and 22 per cent are Dalits. Where should Muslims and Dalits of West Bengal go, who are not part of ‘varna’ system? She’s practicing PM Modi & BJP’s politics of communalism. They are made for each other.”
