Kerala polls: Muslim League worker hacked to death by CPIM workers in Kannur

Paral Mansoor, 21 year old Muslim League worker was brutally killed by a group of CPIM workers in an attack on the polling day in Koothuparamba assembly constituency in the northern Kerala district of Kannur.

Mansoor’s brother Muhasin (27), a UDF poll agent also admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

Muslim League is a key ally of the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).

The Muslim League district committee alleged that the CPIM was behind the attack.

The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Tuesday, as a gang of CPM workers barged into the house of Mansoor after creating scare in the area by hurling bombs into the house. As they attacked Muhasin, his brother Mansoor tried to stop them and the assailants hacked Mansoor also.

Mansoor suffered serious injuries in the attack in which sharp-edged weapons were used.

The brothers were taken initially to Thalasserry Indira Gandhi Hospital and from there to Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode. The death of Mansoor was confirmed around 1 am on Wednesday.

One CPIM worker has been taken into custody.

Koothuparamba assembly constituency witnessed a fierce contest between KP Mohanan of the Lok Janatantrik Dal, a partner of the ruling CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Pottankandy Abdullah of the Muslim League.
