Coronavirus: India reports 1,31,968 cases, 780 deaths in last 24 hours

COVID-19 infections scaled another peak with 131,968 infections on Friday, another single-day highest.

780 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in India now stand at 979,608, which is 7.5 per cent of the total infections.

India reported 61,899 discharges in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile shortage of vaccines are being felt in several states. Several vaccination centres in Mumbai will remain closed today due to unavailability of vaccines.

The BMC released a statement on Thursday, saying it had around 50,000 doses left for Friday. According to a list shared by assistant municipal commissioner for F-North ward Kiran Dighavkar on social media, 51 of 120 centres have cancelled the drive on Friday. Some of the major public centres like the BKC and Dahisar jumbo facilities, SevenHills, Cooper, Kasturba and V N Desai hospitals, have curbed or cancelled.

Restrictions in movement and night curfews are being enforced in Delhi, Maharashtra and some places of Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

The second wave of Covid infections is sparking another reverse migration of workers returning to their home states from places reporting sharp increases in cases.
