BJP Uttar Pradesh leader Giriraj Singh Kushwah’s father died on Tuesday due to unavailability of oxygen at a designated COVID-19 hospital in Agra.
Sobran Singh (70), father of BJP Agra district president Kushwah, had been undergoing treatment for the past five days.
In the same hospital, five people, including Kushwah’s father, died due to the unavailability of oxygen, said the authorities.
Death of BJP leader’s kin due to oxygen shortage reported at a time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath refuted claims of any shortage of beds or oxygen supply in public and private hospitals in the state.
Last week, Uttar Pradesh’s medical education minister Suresh Khanna told reporters that there has been no death due to oxygen shortage in the state and state’s COVID-19 situation is not critical.
But media reports disputed this account, saying many COVID-19 patients have been evicted from the hospital and notices were put up in several hospitals in UP cities including Aligarh, Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra about a shortage of oxygen.
