Condition of SP leader Azam Khan critical but under control, says Lucknow hospital

The health condition of senior Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha member Azam Khan is critical yet under control, said a Lucknow hospital in a statement on Monday.

Azam Khan and his son Mohammad Abdullah Khan were shifted from a Sitapur jail to the hospital for COVID-19 treatment on May 9.

According to the statement issued by Medanta Hospital, the condition of Azam Khan’s son is stable and he is being monitored by doctors.

“On May 24, scanning of Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan (72) was done, in which cavity and fibrosis was found in his lungs. Today, he was kept in the ward with five litres of oxygen. His condition is critical yet under control,” read the statement.

An expert team of the critical care unit of Medanta Hospital is making continuous efforts for his better treatment, news agency PTI quoted the hospital authorities as saying.

The Samajwadi Party leader, his wife Tazeen Fatma and son were sent to jail in February last year in connection with several cases including land grabbing and encroachment.

The Allahabad High Court in December last year granted bail to Tazeen Fatma in all 34 cases filed against her.

While the SP founding member Azam Khan is an MP and a former minister, his wife Tanzeen Fatima is an MLA.

SP chief and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has alleged that the BJP government is taking action against Rampur MP Azam Khan by adding his name to fake cases and vengeance.

As per the allegations of the Samajwadi Party, ever since the BJP came to power, the family of Azam Khan has suffered a lot as several alleged fake cases have been filed against this family. Yadav has made it clear that he along with this entire party stands firmly with the jailed Samajwadi Party leader.
