A cow vigilante group in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura lynched a Muslim youth and severely injured 5 others on Wednesday night, accusing them of smuggling cow.
Shera, a resident of Gonda town in Aligarh was pronounced dead, succumbed to injuries.
According to a news report, the other victims are Kadim, Shahzad, Anish and Rehman, although one name is missed in the report. Three of them are severely injured.
The attackers have alleged that the Muslim youths were caught while they were smuggling cows from Kosi Kalan village in Mathura and were on their way to Mewat.
According to a video by Abstar news, Chandrashekhar baba, a priest from Barsana Ashram, confess he was at the spot where the brutal lynching took place, confronting the Muslim youths.
“I got a call at 3:30 in the morning that a group of men were smuggling cows. I and another man left on a motorcycle to the location.”
“Villagers also joined in to stop the smugglers,” he adds. According to him, the cows were rescued and sent to the police station.
The police reached the location later and found the severely injured Muslim youth. They have been admitted to a district hospital. Shera, one of the youth lost his life due to the beating.
The police have claimed that the clash took place between both sides and that the investigation is ongoing.
This is the latest in a spate of “cow vigilante” attacks that have provoked alarm among the Muslim community in the country’s largest populated state.
