COVID-19: India registers 1.14 lakh new infections, 2,677 deaths

India on Sunday reported 1,14,460 new coronavirus infections during the previous 24 hours while deaths rose by 2,677. This is the lowest spike of daily cases in two months.

Tamil Nadu remains the topmost contributor with 21,410 new cases.

India’s tally of cases since the pandemic broke out in January 2020 stands at 2,88,09,339, with the toll rising to 3,46,759.

Recovery rate increased to 93.67 per cent and fall in positivity rate at 5.62 per cent continued. The positivity rate has been less than 10 per cent for 13 consecutive days, the Union Health Ministry said.

More than 20 lakh samples were tested on Saturday, says the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Goa governments on Saturday extended the coronavirus contained restrictions in their respective states till June 14.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced further measures in his action plan for unlocking the national capital city. Markets and malls will open in Delhi from Monday onwards on the basis of an odd-even system between 10 am and 8 pm, and the Metro will be permitted to function with 50 per cent capacity. Private offices will be allowed to function at 50 per cent strength.
