AIUDF slams Assam CM over his ‘family planning’ remark targeting Muslims

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remarks on population policy and said that the CM has intentionally targeted Muslim community in the state.

The AIUDF’s remarks came after the CM and BJP leader Sarma had on Thursday said, ‘social menaces’ like land encroachment can be solved if the immigrant Muslims follow family planning norms and control their population.

AIUDF MLA and party’s General Secretary Aminul Islam alleged that, targeting to a single community is only political motivation and it is the nature of BJP to target a single community.

“What CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, it has clearly shown that he has targeted a single community, he targeted the Muslim immigrating people. The Muslim migrating people didn’t oppose the population policy adopted by the Assam government and while it has implemented in panchayat election also,” he told reporters.

AIUDF’s another MLA Hafiz Rafiqul Islam also hit out at Sarma, saying that the Assam CM himself has six to seven siblings.

“Instead of saying that a particular community has more children, the Assam chief minister should work on controlling it and find out the reason. Even he has 6-7 siblings. Speaker, I’ve heard has 8 siblings,” ANI quoted the AIUDF MLA as saying.

“CM should uplift the backward class, enhance job opportunity, rehabilitate them irrespective of caste or creed,” he adds.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen supremo and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also rejected Sarma’s reported comments urging Muslims to adopt population control measures.

“Assam CM has again started talk of “population control”. This is Hindutva-speak for blaming poor and marginalised,” Owaisi takes to Twitter to reject Sarma’s contention on population explosion.
