Congress, Left also demand withdrawal of Bengal Governor

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar

The Left parties and the Congress joined the Trinamool Congress in demanding the withdrawal of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, The Hindu reported.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the Trinamool Congress government should officially write to the President on withdrawal of the Governor on Saturday.

He also said not much should be read into his meeting Governor recently.

The Bengal governor had met Chowdhruy at his residence in Delhi two days back.

Chowdhury’s party has been critical of the TMC leaders use of harsh words against the Governor and at the same time have also criticised Dhankar’s “partisan” approach.

Earlier this week, CPIM leader Biman Bose said the Governor was “identifying himself as a BJP man”.

Bose said: “The way the Centre is intervening in affairs of the State and the State government isn’t right. This includes the role of the Governor…What he is doing isn’t right either.”

The ruling TMC has been officially demanding that Dhankhar be recalled by the union government.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi three times on this, she claimed.
