Aijaz Ahmad Dar

Aijaz Ahmad Dar, a 20 year old Muslim from Rajouri district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir was brutally beaten to death by a Hindu mob when he was returning home after buying a buffalo on Tuesday, media outlets in Kashmir reported.

Aijaz Dar, the resident of Thanamandi area in Rajouri, was critically injured in the attack, succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College in Jammu while another Muslim youth accompanying him escaped without any major injury.

Rajouri Police has registered an FIR under the sections of the Indian Penal Code 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 147 (rioting.) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons).

A manhunt to nab the assailants is launched, claimed cops.

No arrest has been made yet. “We have summoned some people but are yet to arrest the real culprits,” Jahangir Ahmad, a police officer in Rajouri said, The Clarion reported.

Guftar Choudhary, spokesperson of Gujjar Bakarwal Youth Welfare Conference (JKGBYC) claimed that the police registered the FIR after protests by the community members.

“Aijaz had left home on Monday to bring a buffalo in a mini truck from a nearby locality. On his way to home, Aijaz and his vehicle’s driver were waylaid by a Hindu group who attacked them with bricks and iron rods. I think they had bashed Aijaz’s head with an iron rod which caused his death. The another youth who drove the vehicle somehow managed to escape,” Mudasir Nazar, kin of Aijaz told Maktoob over phone.

Aijaz, the sole brother to his three sisters, with paralyzed father, was the only bread earner in the family, Nazar said.
