Muslim man lynched to death in Bihar’s Araria

Hindu mob lynchings of Muslims now seem to have become the very normal in India with more than 10 cases of brutal lynching have been reported in 50 days during a pandemic.

In a fresh episode, another Muslim youth Ismail, 27 year old, was beaten to death by a Hindu mob in Jokihat in Bihar’s Araria district on Saturday night.

The incident took place in Yadav Tola village, falling under Jokihat police station area.

The deceased Ismail, son of Shohaib, was a resident of Baluwa Tapra Tola of Mahalgaon police station area and an electrician by profession.

Sub-divisional Police Officer in Araria, Pushkar Kumar said that the two people have been arrested so far and claimed that the villagers beat Ismail to death following they accused him of theft.

Local reports say a mob of about dozen people including Domar Yadav, Sastan Yadav and Chota Yadav brutally assaulted him with sticks and knives. All those who had taken injured Ismail to the hospital for treatment ran away. Police have taken one person into custody among them and he is being questioned, said Vikas Kumar Azad, Jokihat Police SHO.

The deceased’s wife Bibi Masarrat and sister Raihana said that Ismail used to go to Yadav Tola village daily to bring milk.

“Like every day, he went to fetch milk on Saturday night. He is not a thief. He went outside for livelihood. Is ita crime? It is a conspiracy. The murderers should be punished,” Musarrat said.

They demanded the strong action against the killers and justice for Ismaili who was the sole breadwinner of the family.

According to Clarion, on Sunday evening, Muslim residents of the area gathered outside the police station and demanded the arrest of culprits.

Hindu mob lynchings of Muslims, Dalits and other religious minorities have surged in India since Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist regime came to power in 2014.
