BKU to hold Dalit mahapanchayat at Ghazipur on 5 July

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leaders said they will hold a mahapanchayat at Ghazipur border on Monday along with Valmiki community members.

BKU national spokesperson and one of the prominent faces of historic farmers protest Rakesh Tikait will share the protest stage with leaders of Bhartiya Valmiki Organisation to discuss issues concerning Dalit farmers and Valmikis.

BKU’s announcement comes days after BJP claimed that the farmers beat up saffron party workers and damaged several vehicles when some Valmikis gathered to welcome their district leader Amit Valmiki near Ghazipur border.

The farmers maintained that the BJP workers had gathered near the protest stage and were sloganeering against farmers and Rakesh Tikait.

Tikait said: “It is BJP’s purpose to divide people on the basis of their religion and caste. Whereas, BKU makes an effort to feed and unite everyone with a single thread. We have to take care of each other and for us there is no distinction. In this movement we are all united.”
