Millat Times journalist Shahnawaz Hussain was assaulted on Monday by a doctor and staffers in Madhupura, Bihar while reporting a protest staged by patients. Hussain claims the doctor fired warning shots in the air and threaten to kill him.

Dr Santosh Kumar of Patliputra Hospital can be seen charging towards the reporter while snatching a gun, in a video shared on Twitter.

“Dr Santosh Kumar has done two operations on a woman which family accuse was unsuccessful,” Shahnawaz Hussain told Maktoob. “Her family was agitating with the clinic staff, I tried to cover it.”

Hussain shared the video testimony of the family members who were protesting at the clinic. The family alleges medical negligence by Dr Kumar. Microphones of other media organisations can also be seen in the video accessed by Maktoob.

According to Hussain, Kumar threatened him saying it was his clinic and he can do “Whatever” he wants and “even murder”.

“These kinds of behaviour breaks our spirits to work,” lamented Hussain. The doctor has filed a complaint against this journalist.

Shams Tabrez Qasmi, editor-in-chief of Millat Times demanded “immediate arrest of Dr Kumar”.

“We had a word with DSP of Madhupura and demanded a fair probe of the entire incident. The DSP has responded positively with our request and assured us of free and fair investigation in the case,” Qasmi told Maktoob.

“We will file FIR with Delhi Police if proper action is not taken immediately”, he added.
