Anti-Muslim violence: Kashmiri man thrashed in Gurgoan

In the latest episode of anti-Muslim violence in the country, a Kashmiri man claims he was attacked on Thursday evening by a group of goons in Sector 44 Area of Gurgoan, Haryana.

a 24-year-old Tariq Bhat, hailing from Handwara, Kashmir told Maktoob that he was brutally thrashed and harassed by the group while he was returning home from the office.

The assailants targeted him for his identity as a Muslim and Kashmiri.

“Someone covered my eyes and knocked me down and started to punch me,” Bhat narrated. “I was beaten to a pulp. I tried to escape, but I could not”.

“I was beaten for no reason. I held my ears seeking forgiveness just to save myself but they thrashed me brutally. They started beating me before I could say anything. They hit me with some sharp weapon which torn my shirt,” he added.

Tariq Bhat, the sole bread earner of his family, wants to quit and return back after the incident.

Nasir Khuehami, national spokesperson of J&K Students association. told Maktoob that “whatever is happening in India with Muslims is just because of Islamophobia”.

Recently there has been a rise in anti-Muslim violence in India. In Delhi, genocidal slogans were raised by Hindu militant groups days before Independence Day.

“I spoke to Haryana CM Media Advisor Amit Arya. I have brought the matter of Kashmiri youth thrashed in Haryana into his notice and shared details. He conveyed that he has directed the concerned police commissioner to take Immediate action and arrest the culprits”.

“I spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter. He has assured me that he will speak to Haryana CM immediately,” Khuehami added.
