MP: Muslim vendor thrashed by Hindutva group for selling bangles in ‘Hindu area’

A video is being widely circulated on social media showing Tasleem, a bangle seller in Madhya Pradesh’s Govidnagar, being thrashed by Hindutva men for entering the Hindu neighbourhood.

In the video shared by many including poet and Congress politician Imran Pratapgarhi on Twitter, the assailants are angered by Muslim man meeting ‘their wives and daughters’. The Hindu men in Govidnagar in Indore also threatened Tasleem not to enter the ‘Hindu locality.’

Tasleem is a resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, claims a Twitter user.

Following Pratapgarhi’s interference and complaint by Tasleem, an FIR registered against the accused under the sections 34, 120-B, 141, 142, 143, 148, 147, 149, 153-A, 294, 298, 323, 395 and 506 of Indian Penel Code.

This was the second incident in the past week where Muslim merchants and salesmen were thrashed by Hindu right wing groups and were not allowed to enter ‘Hindu localities.”

Last week in Uttar Pradesh, members of the Hindutva group Kranti Sena conducted ‘surprise checks’ at a Muzzaffarnagar market to ensure that no Muslim man applies mehendi (henna) on the hands of Hindu women on the occasion of Hariyali Teej.
