MP: Brother of detained Muslim bangle seller seeks help

Jamal Ali, the younger brother of detained Muslim bangle seller, Tasleem Ali thrashed by Hindu men in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday tells Maktoob that his brother needs legal assistance and security, following his arrest.

Jamal was stopped from visiting his brother outside Banganga Police Station. He alleges police refuse to give information about Tasleem Ali’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, a large crowd has gathered outside the police office demanding the release of three men arrested for attacking Tasleem. Inflammatory slogans and genocidal calls can be heard at the gathering outside the Deputy Inspector General office in Indore.

Video of Tasleem attacked by Hindu men became viral on social media gaining public outcry across the nation. Tasleem Ali, the father of five, could be seen thrashed mercilessly by the Hindu group who are angered by the Muslim man “meeting their wives and daughters”.

“My brother had two identity cards, both of which are in his name. The first one had the name Bhura, which is his nickname, he later changed it to Tasleem Ali which was the name in the second identity card that he was carrying,” Jamal Ali told Maktoob.

The Congress on Tuesday said the Indore incident involving the beating up of a bangle seller is a prelude to “inciting communal conflict and polarisation” ahead of next year’s assembly elections.

The officials said the minor girl filed a complaint with the Banganga police station in Indore against Ali, alleging he introduced himself as Golu and misbehaved with the girl.

“These incidents are a prelude to inciting communal conflict, violence and polarization in the run-up to the next round of state elections,” said senior Congress leader P Chidambaram.

“Ghaziabad, Kanpur and now Indore. Who are these persons who are emboldened to decide what is right and what is wrong.”

Activists have criticised the arrest of Tasleem Ali saying he is ‘framed’.

Surprisingly, no remarks of Tasleem Ali misbehaving can be heard in the viral video. Neither did the assailant hand over him to the police or make a complaint against Tasleem until he filed his complaint against the Hindu men.
