Jantar Mantar anti-Muslim gathering: Follower of Narsinghanand Saraswati arrested

Delhi Police has arrested a Hindutva activist Uttam Malik who is also a follower of Narsinghanand Saraswati, in connection with anti-Muslim genocidal slogans raised at Jantar Mantar earlier this month.

So far, police have arrested eight men associated with Hindutva groups in connection with the case, including former Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay. Upadhyay was granted bail by a Delhi Court a day after his arrest.

Police are conducting raids to nab another accused, Pinky Chaudhary, Indian Express reported. He is absconding after his anticipatory bail application was rejected.

Indian Express reported that the Delhi police investigation has revealed that one of the accused, Deepak Singh Hindu, president of Hindu Force, was invited to the event by Preet Singh, who is the president of Save India organisation and known to Upadhyay.

“We have the documents on record which show that Ashwini Upadhyay had mentioned Preet Singh’s name in his application for organising the event. Further investigations are on,” DCP (New Delhi district) Deepak Yadav said.

Islamophobic slogans calling for killing of Muslims were shouted at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on 8 August in a gathering of hundreds organised by Supreme Court lawyer and former spokesperson of the Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party Ashwini Upadhyay.

“Hindustan mein rehna hoga, Jai Sri Ram kehna hoga (If you want to stay in India, you have to say Jai Sri Ram).” “Mulleh kate jaayenge, Ram Rajya dikhaenge (Muslims will be killed, we will establish Ram Rajya),” these slogans were raised by a Uttam Malik. Uttam can be seen in several videos on social media, raising genocidal slogans.

Uttam who belongs to the Hindu outfit called Bhagwadhari Yodha Sangh, is a follower of Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, the head priest of the Dasna Devi temple’s (Ghaziabad), who has constantly been in the news for his anti-Muslim statements.

The videos of the event showed Hindutva extremists shouting slogans threatening harm to Muslims, India’s largest religious minority group.

BJP leader Gajendra Chauhan was among the participants.

Videos showed the organisers distributing posters carrying for the murder of Muslims. “Hindu groups always protest against Muslims which shows their cowardice. They stay within constitutional and legal limits. This is possibly because Hindus are not capable of committing genocide,” said one poster titled “Islam Ka Vinaash” (Annihilation of Islam).
