Four days after Taslim Ali, a 25-year-old bangle seller, was beaten up by a Hindu mob, another Muslim hawker selling toast on the road was beaten up by two men in Madhya Pradesh.
In the latest incidence of anti-Muslim violence reported from state, 45-year-old Jaheer Khan was thrashed by two men after he “failed to produce an Aadhaar card to prove his identity.”
The unidentified persons asked Jaheer Khan to show his Aadhaar card when he was selling toasts on nearby Baroli Road, 60 km from Dewas city in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon.
When Amaltaz village resident Khan told assailants that he did not have the card, they abused him and beat him with sticks and belts.
Khan suffered minor injuries on his hands and legs and claimed that he recognised the two men who beat him from their faces but did not know their names.
“Both are residents of Borli village and I have seen them in the village in the past, I recognise them from their faces and they have warned me not to enter the village again,” India Today quoted Khan as saying.
Police have registered a case under Sections 294, 323, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against two unidentified accused, said additional superintendent of police (rural) Suryakant Sharma.
