Stop attack on Assam Muslims, release Muslim scholars in UP: AMU students

Hundreds of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students have gathered inside the campus to protest against state violence and police killings of Muslims in Assam and the arrests of Muslim scholars in Uttar Pradesh.

AMU students lead a march from the university’s Jama Masjid to the Bab-e-Syed Gate on Friday, demanding an immediate halt to the attack on Muslims of Assam and unconditional release of Muslim scholars including Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui and Umar Gautam who were arrested under draconian anti-conversion law by Uttar Pradesh police.

The students later submitted a memorandum, addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind, to the district magistrate.

“…we hereby state that the recent arrests of propagators of Islam, including but not limited to Maulana Kalim Siddiqui and Dr Umar Gautam as well as the killing of hapless Muslims of Assam along with their forceful eviction is unacceptable to the Muslims of India and enrages the community,” read the memorandum.
