Lakhimpur Kheri: Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son appears before crime branch

Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, who has been accused of running over farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, arrived at the Police Lines today for questioning over the farmers’ killings in the district, a day after skipping the summons.

On Friday, responding to UP government’s advocate Harish Salve who said that Ashish had been summoned for questioning, Chief Justice of India Ramana said: “We expect there is a responsible government…police officers and system. When there is a serious allegation of gunshot injury…will other accused in this country be treated the same way, by sending an invitation?”

Supreme Court, while hearing a PIL over the matter, said that it was not satisfied with the steps taken by UP government to address the issue.

However, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said there will be no injustice with anyone and no action will be taken under any kind of pressure or without evidence.

The accused’s lawyer said that his client will respect the notice and co-operate with the police with regards to the investigation. “Ashish Mishra will appear before the police today,” Awadhesh Kumar said.
