A five-member committee of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is holding an urgent meeting in New Delhi today.
On Tuesday, rejecting the Union government’s condition, which said that cases against farmers would be withdrawn once the farmers called off their year-long protest, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha said they would take a final decision on the same during a meeting on Wednesday.
The panel members include farmer leaders Balbir Singh Rajewal, Ashok Dhawle, Shiv Kumar Kakka, Gurnam Singh Chaduni and Yudhvir Singh.
“Government’s proposal says that after we end the movement, only then would they withdraw the cases against farmers. However, we’re apprehensive about it. Government should immediately begin with the cases’ withdrawal procedure. Final decision to be taken at tomorrow’s meeting at 2 pm,” read SKM’s press note on Tuesday.
According to the five-point proposal from the Union government, a committee would be formed on minimum support price (MSP) and would have representatives from Central, state governments, agriculture scientists and farmer representatives including SKM.
The Union, in its proposal, also gave an assurance that it will resolve the issue of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill only after discussions with all stakeholders. The protesters said they want the Bill withdrawn.
Bharatiya Kisan Union chief Gurnam Singh Charuni today said that the farmers will not move till all their demands are met.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has been spearheading the farmer protests at the borders of Delhi for more than a year now.
