After 5 years, Akhilesh meets uncle Shivpal, announces UP poll alliance

“There was a meeting with PSP national president and an alliance was decided. The policy of taking regional parties along is constantly strengthening SP and taking the SP and other allies to a historic victory,” Akhilesh tweeted in Hindi, sharing a photograph with Shivpal.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav Thursday met his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav and announced an alliance with his party, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia).

The meeting was held at Shivpal’s residence and the formal meeting of the duo comes almost five years after a tussle for power within the SP started between the two senior politicians.

“There was a meeting with PSP national president and an alliance was decided. The policy of taking regional parties along is constantly strengthening SP and taking the SP and other allies to a historic victory,” Akhilesh tweeted in Hindi, sharing a photograph with Shivpal.

Shivpal Yadav had formed his own party Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) after breaking away from Akhilesh Yadav during 2016-17.

Shivpal Yadav is the sole MLA from his party from Jaswant Nagar in the Yadav family bastion of Mainpuri.

Samajwadi Party has so far announced poll alliances with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD, Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), Mahan Dal, and Janwadi Socialist Party.

The Assembly polls are expected to be held early next year.
