Farm unions participated in protest will support RLD-SP alliance: Jayant Chaudhary
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary was addressing a joint RLD-SP rally at Iglas in Aligarh on Thursday. The rally was organised on the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary claimed that all those who participated in the historic farmers’ agitation will jointly fight and oppose the ‘Kisan Virodhi’ (anti-farmer) government of Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming assembly elections

He was addressing a joint RLD-SP rally at Iglas in Aligarh on Thursday. The rally was organised on the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav remained absent as he was in home quarantine.

RLD leader said he was earlier in Delhi to perform rituals on the birth anniversary of his grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh, and many farmer leaders had also attended the event. Jayant claimed that in that event, BKU spokesperson and one of the prominent faces of farmers’ protest Rakesh Tikat said “Hum Milkar Ladenge (We will fight together).”

Political analysts say the Delhi event was quite important in the context of the upcoming polls as RLD has already allied with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party. Western Uttar Pradesh is dominated by Jat voters and almost a hundred Assembly seats are decided by this voter base, which is predominately agrarian.

RLD leader further announced that farmers who died during the agitation against contentious agricultural laws will be given “martyr” status and their kin will be given Rs 1 crore compensation by December 23, 2022, if the coalition is voted to power.

Jayant also promised to give Rs 12,000 under PM Samman Yojana, which will be double what farmers are getting now.
