The Delhi Police detained several resident doctors who were marching to the Supreme Court in protest against the delay in NEET 2021 counseling and protesting female doctors alleged that they were manhandled by male police officers.
The protest was held by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA).
Condemning the police actions, FORDA called it a “Black day in the history of the medical fraternity”. The doctors announced that all healthcare institutions would be completely shut down from today.
“Resident Doctors, the so-called “Corona Warriors”, protesting peacefully to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 were brutally thrashed, dragged and detained by the police. There will be complete shutdown of all Healthcare Institutions from today onwards!” read a statement by FORDA.
FORDA also demanded the immediate release of all including the president of the association, Dr. Manish and the resident doctors detained.
Reports say at least 6 women resident doctors were slapped by male police officers while some were thrashed on road.

Few women resident officers have also claimed that one of the police officer was even drunk and even misbehaved,” read a tweet by journalist Samriddhi K Sakunia.
Reacting to the police action, Congress former chief Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter saying: “Showering flowers was a PR stunt, in reality it is injustice that is pouring. I am with Covid warriors against the tyranny of the Union government.”
During protests, doctors raised slogans, urging the top court to expedite the case in which the criteria for providing EWS quota in the NEET PG admissions are being challenged. They also demanded that the counseling and admission process be accelerated.
