Former Rajya Sabha MP Mohmmad Adeeb, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the local Hindus’ attack against namaz in Gurgaon, said he will approach the court against the latest FIR lodged against him by Gurgaon Police.
On Tuesday, Adeeb and two others – Mufti Mohammed Saleem Qasmi, president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind’s Gurgaon unit, and Abdul Haseeb Qashmi, have been booked by Gurgaon’s sector 40 police station under IPC sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 34 (common intention) on a complaint filed by local Hindu activists accusing them of disrupting communal harmony and trying to grab land.
“I had petitioned in the Supreme Court complaining that the police and authorities are not taking action against the rioters. I was named in the FIR on the complaint of the same rioter. I will go to court against it. If anyone thinks that he can intimidate me, he has misunderstood me. I will fight till my last breath. I have complete faith in the judiciary,” the 77-year-old former BSP MP Adeeb said to Maktoob.
In his complaint against Adeeb, Jai Bharat Mata Vahini leader Dinesh Thakur, who was arrested thrice for promoting enmities between communities and other charges in recent months, claimed that Adeeb and other Muslim leaders were planning to build a mosque by grabbing land at sector 40 in Gurgaon.
In the FIR, Thakur alleged “on 2 January, one of the accused has been quoted in a Hindi newspaper that they will build a mosque on a plot at sector 40. I checked with locals, who informed me that the accused are trying to encroach the land… These people, who receive funding from abroad, are trying to incite riots in the country.”
Adeeb said his charges against the Gurgaon administration of being biased have been proved right through this FIR. The police have not yet filed FIR against those who were disturbing peace and harmony in the region and carrying out riots during the namaz disruption. It was saying that the police are investigating matters.
“But they have filed an FIR against me, a person who was the Member of Parliament and is associated with 10 or 11 institutions on the complaint of a person, who was jailed three times. An FIR was filed without informing me about it. I will tell all these things in the court,” he said, asserting that he will definitely go to court as he is being projected as a “land grabber.”
The FIR is aimed at intimidating him. He is not going to cow down under such a threat, Adeeb said.
Adeeb also told Maktboob that the FIR was lodged against him on the basis of a news report of Hindi daily ‘Amar Ujala’ in which his name was not present. Adeeb also said that he came to know about the FIR through a news report.
Weeks ago, Gurugram Muslim Council led by Adeeb had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against the Haryana Chief Secretary and Director General of Police for failing to stop the namaz disruption.
For weeks, the Hindutva groups had organized intimidating protests at the designated sites where Muslims used to offer their collective Friday prayers due to the lack of mosques in Gurgaon.
“While presently only certain elements are carrying out a hateful campaign, the inaction of the police in preventing the said persons despite prior information repeatedly given by the present petitioner and others is contempt,” reads the petition filed by Adeeb, who lives in Gurgaon.
