Following minister Maurya, 3 BJP MLAs now join SP

In a massive hit to the ruling BJP, key UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya and three saffron party MLAs quit today and joined the Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party.

Soon after Maurya’s resignation, three more MLAs, Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati and Bhagwati Sagar announced their resignations.

On Tuesday, Maurya resigned from the cabinet through a letter to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandi Ben.

“I have worked with responsibility and dedication in the cabinet of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as Labour and Employment Minister in adverse situation as well as ideology but because of neglect of Dalits, backwards, farmers, unemployed, youth as well as small traders, I resign from the cabinet of Uttar Pradesh,” Maurya wrote in his letter of resignation to the Governor in Hindi.

Akhilesh Yadav tweeted picture with Maurya and welcomed him along with other workers and supporters into the party.

Referring to Maurya as the one who fights for social justice, Yadav wrote, “Samajik Nyaya ka inkalab hoga, bayis mein Badlav hoga”.
