60 sitting MLAs, 17 ministers: Congress’s first list of candidates in Punjab

Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state unit president of Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu have been named in the first list of 86 Congress candidates announced on Saturday.

While Channi has been fielded from Chamkaur Sahib constituency, Sidhu will contest from Amritsar (East).

The ruling Congress provided tickets to 60 sitting MLAs, which included 17 ministers.

Deputy Chief Ministers Om Parkash Soni and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa will contest from their respective Amritsar Central and Dera Baba Nanak seats

Congress has also fielded actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood from Moga and Punjabi singer Sidhu Mussewala from Mansa.

Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Rupinder Kaur Ruby, both formerly with AAP, have been fielded from Bholath and Malout seats, respectively.

The ruling party denied tickets to only four MLAs in the 86 seats (out of 117) for which names were announced.

The elections in Punjab will be held in a single phase on February 14 across 117 seats and the results of all the assembly polls will be declared on March 10.
