Hyderabad University students to remember Rohith Vemula on sixth death anniversary
The 26-year-old Dalit student‘s death triggered a countrywide agitation against casteism in institutions of higher learning. 

Ambedkar Students’ Association in the University of Hyderabad announced an online event on 17 January to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit research scholar who died by suicide in 2016 after facing caste discrimination and social boycott.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president and Lok Sabha member Dr. Thol. Thirumavalavan will be the chief guest of the event titled “Online commemoration of Rohith Shahdath Din ’22.”

University of Hyderabad Professor K. Suneetha Rani, Andhra Pradesh High court lawyer Jai Bheema Rao, Dalit scholar from Kerala who fought against casteism in the campus Deep P Mohanan and anti-caste scholar and activist Dr. Jilukara Srinivas will then share their accounts of the fight against casteism and Rohith Vemula movement in the session In the presence of Rohith’s mother Radhika Vemula.

The program will be live on the Facebook page of the Ambedkar Students’ Association.
