Fifth arrest in Bulli Bai case: Neeraj Singh from Odisha

Targeted online harassment or in-speech aggressions against Muslim women however is not an uncommon episode

The Mumbai Police have made their fourth arrest in connection with the Bulli Bai app that was used by right-wing Hindus to ‘auction’ Muslim women.

A team of Mumbai Police cyber cell arrested Neeraj Singh from Odisha on Thursday.

Singh was arrested after his involvement in the case surfaced in the course of the investigation, cops said, adding that he will brought to Mumbai soon.

This is the fifth arrest in the case. Neeraj Singh is the fourth accused arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with case, and the fifth overall.

Vishal Kumar Jha, Shweta Singh and Mayank Rawat were earlier arrested by Mumbai Police for their involvement in the creation of the app. While Jha was arrested from Bengaluru, the latter two were arrested from Uttarakhand.

The prime accused, Niraj Bishnoi, was arrested by the Delhi Police on two weeks ago Jorhat in Assam.

Nearly six months after the ‘Sulli Deals‘ where photographs of more than 80 Muslim women put up for sale by right-wing Hindus, asserting anti-Muslim hatred and selective sexism, photos of hundreds of Muslim women were uploaded by an unidentified group on an App using GitHub – by the name of ‘Bulli Bai’ – on 1 January 2022.
