3 right wing Hindu men arrested for Clubhouse Chat on abusing women

Three people have been arrested by Mumbai Police during their ongoing investigation into abusive discussions on audio chat app Clubhouse.

The three youths – Akash (19), Jaishnav (21) and Yash Parashar (22) were arrested from Haryana.

Mumbai Police said that the latest arrests have been made in connection with chats abusing women on the Clubhouse app. Police who said two of the arrestees may have been part of another Clubhouse chat that targeted Muslim women, told reporters that they are probing all such conversations on the platform.

Based on a complaint by a woman, the cyber cell of the Mumbai crime branch has registered a case against the three accused under sections 153(a), 295(a), 354(a), 354(d) of IPC, and section 67 of Information Technology Act 2000. Two of the accused will be produced in a local court later in the day, reported PTI quoting an official.

The three will be brought to Mumbai on transit remand.

The arrest comes two days after Delhi Police wrote to the Clubhouse app seeking details of the organiser of a discussion where offensive remarks were made against Muslim women.

Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit which works under the supervision of Special Cell filed an FIR against the unknown persons in the matter.

The FIR was registered just hours after the Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to the Delhi Police demanding action against people who made “obscene comments against Muslim women” on the app.

A video of the discussion, including women participants, was shared online, sparking outrage.Young men were caught fetishising Muslim women in the group.

This comes weeks after hundreds of Muslim women were listed for mock auction on the Bulli Bai app, developed by right-wing Hindu students.
