The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced that it will launch “Mission Uttar Pradesh” from February 3 against the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the poll-bound state.

The decision was taken at a coordination committee meeting on Friday, Livehindustan reported.

Farmer leaders said they will intensity their demand for the removal and arrest of Union minister Ajay Mishra from the Cabinet. In Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, four farmers and one journalist were killed when a convoy of three SUVs, including one owned by union minister Ajay Mishra, ran over a group of protesting farmers on 3 October last year.

In the first phase of campaign, the SKM will hold a press conference on 3 February. The farmer organisations under SKM will also hold ‘Nukkad Sabha’ and launch a campaign against the government on social media, Livehindustan further reported.

The protesting body will also organise demonstrations against the Union government at all tehsil and district headquarters across the country and seek fulfillment of their demands on 31 January.

Earlier farmer leaders said that people are unhappy with the BJP and it will play a decisive role in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh elections.

“Our main demands to give us a legal guarantee on minimum support price and expel Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni from the Cabinet are still not fulfilled,” Abhimanyu Singh Kohar, a member of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha had said.

Following the draconian farm laws were withdrawn in Parliament on 29 November and in a proposal, Union government assured action on pending demands of MSP and removal of Union minister Ajay Mishra, the umbrella body of farmer unions had called off the historic year-long agitation.
