2022 Academy Awards nominations announced

2022 Academy Awards nominees were announced, on Tuesday, by actors Tracee Ellisa and Leslie Jordan. Nominees spanning 23 categories were published via a global live stream on Oscar.com and Oscars.org, besides the social media handles of motion picture academy (Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook).

The awards will be distributed on March 27th in Los Angeles.

Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog leads in number with 12 noms, including the best director, followed by Dennis Villenueve’s Dune with 10 noms and Belfast and West Side Story with 7 each.

The nomination came up with usual snubs and surprises.

The only Indian name is of the documentary Writing with fire directed by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas. It documents the story of India’s only Dalit Women-run newspaper ‘Khabar Lahariya’.

While the nominations were announced, two real-life couples- Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz along with Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst- received noms.

Along with the Japanese film Drive My Car, “Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom” from Bhutan is the only Asian movie in the International Feature category.
