‘One nation one registration’ threat to federalism: Stalin

Opposing the Union government’s ‘One-nation-one-registration’ initiative announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday said “federalism is under threat today.”

Addressing a virtual election rally at Tiruppur, Stalin said he would make slogan on state autonomy and federalism at the Centre heard all over India.

“This will not benefit the people. That is why we are advocating state autonomy for India to flourish,” he said.

“Social justice and state autonomy are the great ideologies that the Dravidian movement gave to this country. I have committed myself to the task of ensuring social justice bloom throughout the country (through the All India Social Justice Federation, which he proposed to launch soon),” Stalin added.

According to Stalin, federalism is under threat today as the BJP-led government is creating an environment divesting all powers of the states.

Days after announcing the launch of an All India Federation for Social Justice, DMK chief M K Stalin wrote letters to 37 non-BJP leaders, inviting them to nominate their party representatives to “fight the threat of bigotry and religious hegemony.”

“Social Justice as an ideology is simple — ‘everything for everyone’. It is the belief that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities. Only by ensuring this equality of opportunity can we build the egalitarian society visualised by the framers of our Constitution,” read the letter.

The All India Social Justice Federation was proclaimed by Stalin on Republic Day, 26 January, 2022.

The letter has been sent to Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee, D Raja, Sitaram Yechury, N Chandrababu Naidu, Arvind Kejriwal, Mehboobha Mufti, K Chandrashekar Rao, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Thol Thirumavalavan, Vaiko, O Panneerselvam and S Ramadoss among others.

“The next phase of action would begin once the election in the five states get over,” Stalin said on Saturday.
