Maharashtra records zero COVID deaths first time since pandemic began

For the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Maharashtra reported zero COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday.

“We have registered the zero-death toll for the first time since April 1, 2020,” said state surveillance in-charge Dr Pradeep Awate.

On Wednesday, the state reported 544 new COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, Mumbai also recorded zero COVID deaths for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday, and 100 new cases.

Maharashtra had reported its first virus fatality on 17 March, 2020 and it was the third COVID-19 death in India.

The state was the epicenter of the pandemic with the highest number of COVID-19 infections in India.
