Congress top body to meet tomorrow to discuss poll debacle

The Congress’s top decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee or CWC, will meet Sunday, three days after a huge defeat in state polls, sources said on Saturday.

The virtual meeting of the CWC will begin at 4 pm.

The highest executive authority of the grand old party consists of the Congress president, leader of the Congress parliamentary party, and 23 other members.

The Congress lost Punjab, one of the last major states under its control, to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and failed to put up a strong fight in three other states where it had hoped for a comeback – Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur. In Uttar Pradesh, where the campaign was led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress got just 2 seats out of 403 and got just 2.4 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, the leaders of G-23, who have been demanding an organisational overhaul, had met Friday evening at the residence of senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to evolve their strategy ahead of the crucial CWC meeting, PTI reported.

Reports say,  In addition to the appointment of a new Congress president, the leaders of G-23 are also demanding that the party hold organisational polls.
