New films in Tamil reinforce ideas of Dravidian politics: Director Vetrimaran

New films in Tamil reinforce the ideas put forward by Dravidian politics, said award-winning director Vetrimaran.

Vetrimaran was speaking at a symposium at the 26th International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram.

“Tamil cinema puts forward the principles of Dravidian politics and the new films lend strength to the ideals of Dravidian politics. Social realities and political circumstances provide themes to such movies,” he said.

‘The world today is divided; you have to choose either left or right, there is no middle. If you choose the nonexistent middle, it means you support the right,” Vetrimaran said.

The director also spoke about the existence of masculinity in cinema as it often tells the story through a male perspective.

Directors Lijo Jose Pellissery, Ranjith, Kamal, Sibi Malayil and Natalia took part to discuss the cinema in south India.
