Anti-Muslim Clubhouse chat: Mumbai Court grants bail to Akash Suyal

Mumbai Court on Thursday granted bail to 18-year-old Akash Suyal, creator of the chat room on Clubhouse which hosted Islamophobic and anti-Muslim discussions.

The Court directed the accused to undergo counselling.

Akash was arrested in January by the Mumbai Police from Haryana along with two other accused after the cyber cell of the Mumbai crime branch registered a case against them based on a complaint by a Muslim woman accusing them of making derogatory comments against Muslim women on the Clubhouse app.

Clubhouse started as an app for social interaction through live audio, but it has become a breeding ground for communal hatred and Islamophobia in India.

The Clubhouse app gives Hindutva factions an open platform to spread hatred against minorities, particularly Muslims.

Popular Clubhouse groups such as “Hind Hindu Hindutva”, “Akhand Bharat ka Sapna” and “Hindu ecosystem” include people who openly call for a “Muslim genocide” and the establishment of India as a “Hindu Rashtra”.
