Congress seeks Karnataka home minister’s arrest for giving anti-Muslim twist to Dalit man’s murder

After Home Minister Araga Jnanendra claimed that a 22 year old Dalit youth was stabbed to death for not knowing Urdu, the Congress has filed an FIR for misleading statements and sought the arrest of Jnanendra and BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi.

Chandru, was murdered in the JJ Nagar police station limits of Bengaluru on Tuesday, April 5, in a road rage case.

However, Jnandendra made provocative communal statements “I have gathered information regarding Chandru’s murder. He was asked to speak in Urdu, but he didn’t know. When he said he didn’t know any language other than Kannada, they killed him by stabbing him repeatedly”.

Later, he withdrew his statements saying they were false preliminary reports he received from sources. “I have just got the detailed report. I had said the murder was due to a language issue, but it is not correct. He had died because of stabbing following a bike collision incident,” Jnanendra said.

Chandru’s bike had collided with another bike, identified to be that of Shahid. A fight erupted between the two and Chandru was stabbed in the thigh. Though rushed to hospital Chandru succumbed to death.

While the murder was an incident of road rage case in Cottonpet, BJP National General Secretary and MLA CT Ravi has also made provocative communal statements.

“The incident should not be seen in isolation and there are provocations behind such a mindset. What is happening in Kashmir could also take place in Karnataka. I condemn the incident. Progressive thinkers have turned a blind eye to the incident. Congress leaders won’t shed any tears if a Hindu is killed and Opposition leader Siddaramaiah won’t pay condolences if the victim is a Hindu,” he said

JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy also criticised the statement for their communal remarks, “The ruling BJP is trying to play politics even in a murder case,” he said.
