UP: Principal booked for asking students to dress in Eid attire for school activity

The principal of a private school was booked in Uttar Pradesh‘s Prayagraj for asking students to post videos wearing “Eid attire” as part of the school activity. Bushra Mustafa was booked on a complaint by Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s leader Lalmani Tiwari.

Mustafa is the principal of CBSE-affiliated Nyaya Nagar Public School located in Havelia area. She was booked under IPC section 153-A (Promoting enmity between different groups), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and under section 67 of the IT Act, reports Indian Express.

The FIR was lodged on Wednesday and further investigation is underway.

The school administration defended the principal and said that such activities are organised on other Hindu festivals like Diwali, Dussehra and Independence Day and Republic Day as well.

“Students have to make a short video of 20 seconds dressed up in salwar kurta with Eid cap (boys), salwar kurta with dupatta (girls) saying Happy Eid,” reads the notice shared with students.
