A leader from the local Muslim fishing community in Gujarat’s Porbandar has approached the Gujarat High Court seeking permission to undergo euthanasia for himself and 600 members of his people, saying they have been facing “political persecution.”
The application, filed by Allarakha Ismailbhai Thimmar on behalf of the Gosabara Muslim Fishermen’s Society, said that “the government does not provide facilities to people belonging to a particular community.”
Thimmar and others hail from the Gosabara wetlands in Porbandar, according to New Indian Express.
“Thimmar and his community are being denied their rights despite having licences,” the petitioner’s counsel, Dharmesh Gurjar said to the New Indian Express.
The mooring of boats has been banned at Gosabara port since 2016, he alleged.
The BJP government in Gujarat “with malafide intention” does not provide parking licences to Muslims in breach of their fundamental rights, the petition alleged.
In his petition, the Muslim fishermen leader said that government has been harassing” their families on the basis of religion and claims all facilities are regularly given to Hindu fishermen while Muslims still remain deprived.
“The petitioner and his community are totally loyal to the nation and they have never been involved in any kind of anti-national activities like smuggling of golds, drugs, etc. On the contrary, the petitioner and his community have given inputs and information to the security agency from time to time regarding such illegal anti-nation activities which are sponsored by Pakistan and other international agencies,” read the petition.
