Gyanvapi survey: Varanasi court removes survey official, extends time to submit report

On Tuesday, a local Court in Varanasi has ordered to remove an advocate commissioner appointed to conduct a videography survey of the Gyanvapi mosque for leaking information to the media.

The court also granted two days extension to submit the committee’s survey report.

The special advocate commissioner Vishal Singh had moved an application before the Civil Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar seeking two-day to include all vital facts of the disputed site in the court commission report.

The Mosque management committee had earlier moved a petition to remove the same commissioner, Ajay Mishra, saying he is biased. But the court overruled it.

Earlier on Monday, the Varanasi court directed the district administration to seal the spot in the mosque complex where a Shivling was claimed to have been found during the videography survey.

The ruling comes amidst the Supreme Court hearing of the petition by the Committee of Management of Anjuman Intezamia Masjid. The Muslim body contends that it is contrary to provisions of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act 1991.
