On Monday, the TMC-led West Bengal government issued an advisory to all multiple system operators (MSOs) and cable TV operators. The notice advised television network providers to refrain from broadcasting any sensitive content.
The statement stated, “Several satellite TV channels are transmitting coverage of news and incidents in such manner which are misleading, sensationalized and having communal tone likely to cause a breach of peace in the state.”
The West Bengal government statement further added, “State government advises all MSOs and cable operators who are broadcasting such news and programs of various private satellite TV channels to immediately refrain from transmitting any such content which is violative of above mentioned Cable Television Network Act of 1995.”
