Hate speech against Muslims: Karnataka Hindutva leader booked

Kolar Police in Karnataka have registered a case against Keshav Murthy, the state convener of a Hindutva outfit called Hindu Jagaran Vedike, and others for making hate speech against the Quran and Muslims.

“Quran is a criminal book. It orders to kill people by stoning and beheading those who don’t believe in it. Those who follow Quran won’t do what it says. All of them who read the Quran have become terrorists,” Keshav Murthy said on 1 July during a protest gathering against the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

The complaint was lodged by Zameer Ahamad, president of the organisation Anjuman-e-Islamia.

The case against Keshav Murthy has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 153B (provocation with intent to cause a riot), and 295A (outraging religious feelings), among others.
