No breakthrough even after 7 years of killing, Govind Pansare’s daughter moves Bombay HC

A plea has been filed before the Bombay High Court seeking transfer of probe into the murder of Communist Party of India leader and human rights activist Govind Pansare to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

The Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently investigating the matter.

The daughter and daughter-in-law of Pansare claimed before Bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and VG Bisht that there is a larger conspiracy in the murders of Pansare and other human rights defenders like Narendra Dabholkar, MM Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh which ought to be investigated.

According to the plea filed by Pansare’s daughter Smita Pansare, the four murders are interlinked and mastermind behind these attacks is common.

The state police is yet to make any breakthrough in the case even after seven years of the killing, it alleged.

The HC issued notice to the state government and sought its response.

Pansare was shot at on February 16, 2015, near his house in Kolhapur while Dabholkar was shot dead in Pune on August 20, 2013. Panzare died four days later.

The HC has been hearing two pleas and several other applications filed by Smita Pansare and Mukta Dabholkar, the family members of the slain activists, seeking court-monitored probes.
